Perfect Peace

Wouldn’t we all agree that there will always be some grief, some chaos, some noise, or some situation that tries to disturb our peace? Every human being knows that the death of a loved one is perhaps the greatest disturbance we can experience. When you lose someone dear to you, your heart is shaken in a way nothing else can compare to.

If not death, it may be losing your job or feeling insecure because of a competitive colleague who doesn’t want to see you succeed. It could be a sports injury, a torn ACL or hamstring, after training faithfully for an entire year, only to get injured right before the competition. That is heartbreaking.

I can relate to that. Many times I have torn my hamstring because of intense training. Yet every time I was reminded that it was never the end of the game.

Life will always present us with setbacks, but setbacks do not have the final word.

At the same time, we cannot strive our way into peace. A mountain trip, a cabin in the woods, or a vacation may refresh your mind for a little while, and there is nothing wrong with that. God gives us moments of rest. But those experiences cannot sustain peace. You cannot live on the mountain vacation forever. The refreshment fades, and life eventually meets you again.

As human beings, we need something deeper, something that remains regardless of our circumstances, vacations, successes, failures, or painful seasons.

That is the perfect peace of God.

“You keep him in perfect peace whose mind is stayed on You, because he trusts in You.” Isaiah 26:3

God’s peace belongs to those who keep their minds fixed on Him, those who choose to trust Him in every season of life. This is one of the most beautiful truths in Scripture.

How do we experience this peace?

By continually coming back to God. By giving your life to Christ for the first time, or by surrendering yourself to Him again and again each day.

Start with God. Return to God. Keep God Big in Your Story.

The more our minds are filled with His character, His promises, His goodness, and His kingdom, the more His peace begins to rule our hearts.

Maybe you’ve messed up. Maybe you’ve failed. Maybe you feel like all hope is gone. Choose to begin with God. Choose to believe that if you fix your mind on Him and make Him greater than your problems, His peace will guard your heart.

Having peace doesn’t mean your circumstances suddenly change overnight. It means that while circumstances remain difficult, you are no longer ruled by fear. The peace of God positions you to live wisely, faithfully, and courageously.

If you are grieving the loss of someone you love, don’t ignore your grief. Bring it to God. Fix your mind on His eternal promises. Remember the glorious hope that those who die in Christ will live forever with Him. The gospel gives us an eternal perspective that no earthly philosophy can offer.

No human being can give you this peace. No amount of money. No success. No fame. No possessions. No achievement. Only Christ gives the peace that remains when everything else is shaken.

Prayer: God of perfect peace. Things are not looking great right now. My heart feels unsettled, and there is noise within my soul. Yet I choose to trust Your promise in Isaiah 26:3. Keep my mind fixed on You. Fill me with Your perfect peace and guide my steps. Help me to make You greater than my fears, my disappointments, and my circumstances. Teach me to trust You in every season of life.
