Where Can I Find Wisdom?
God is omniscient. He alone possesses complete wisdom — no one else.
And God is not hiding His wisdom from us. He's inviting us into it. All He asks is that we ask
It is tough to speak on wisdom in our era. Every generation wrestles with it, but ours even more, because we are drowning in voices.
Social media, podcasts, books, documentaries, movies: ask one question and receive 47 different answers in less than two minutes. We have never had so much access to information, and yet wisdom can feel like it's overflowing when really much of it is just noise.
Some of those voices mislead, so the sources of wisdom must be discerned — but by what? Experience? A coach? A family member? All can help, and all can fail us.
Consider that we make some 35,000 decisions in a single day, from the smallest to the life-altering because life requires it. None of us wants to make bad decisions; we all want good ones. But the tension remains:
How do I make the best-quality decision?
How do I know which voice to listen to, which advice is actually wise, and which source will genuinely help me prosper?
We live in a generation where you don't even have to know something anymore — you just have to know how to Google it. If Google doesn't explain it well enough, YouTube has a video. If YouTube is too long, TikTok has the 30-second version. 😂 And if you're still confused, ChatGPT is waiting.
You can wake up in the morning and before you've even brushed your teeth, ten people you've never met are already telling you how to live your life. So the question is no longer, "Where can I find information?" The question is, "Where can I find wisdom?"
Proverbs 2:6 gives us hope:
“For the LORD gives wisdom; from his mouth come knowledge and understanding."
We serve an omniscient God — He alone possesses complete wisdom. He knows the beginning and the end, what we see and what we cannot see, what is coming and what we don't know. And here is something beautiful:
He has not chosen to hide His wisdom from us. He has invited us into it.
James 1:5 says it plainly, if anyone lacks wisdom, let him ask God. God knows everything, and He says, "Ask Me."
So wisdom begins with dependence — with recognizing, "I don't know everything."
We have our experience, our education, our opinions, our people, Google, even ChatGPT. But before the decision, ask God.
Sometimes the wisest prayer you can pray is simply, "Lord, give me wisdom." We don't have to pretend we have every answer. We just have to ask the One who does.
