Whiskey, Cigars & Italian Motors

What’s going on, guys?

This is something I’ve been rubbing shoulders with over the last few months. I keep seeing men at special events..suits, shades, shiny boots, a cigar in one hand and whiskey in the other.

And then there are the cars.

Just recently, late at night at a traffic light, I saw a Jaguar SUV take off the moment the light turned green. It was quick, furious, speedy and exciting to watch. I thought, Do I like speed? Absolutely. The thrill. The adrenaline. The horsepower. The acceleration.

So what is going on in the boys’ world..especially among entrepreneurs?

Whiskey. Cigars. Italian motors.

No, Jaguar isn’t Italian. But you get the picture.

Are these three things meaningful? Are they healthy? Are they a good model for men?

Most of us probably understand the attraction. I love a powerful car. I love the feeling of quick acceleration and the sound of horsepower. But perhaps the bigger question is not what looks cool?

It is: What are we building our lives around?

Enjoy the beautiful things. Enjoy the drive.

But don’t let the cigar, the whiskey, or the horsepower become the measure of a man.

The real question is:

What is under the hood of your life?
