What’s On Your Playlist?
It’s nothing new for us to live our lives through a certain playlist. Growing up, I was handed a guitar, a J&D Marvell, Australian-made. I didn’t even know how to play it. My brother had already started learning on his old Yamaha for about a year, if I remember correctly.
I was probably around 16 or 17, while my brother was in his early twenties. When I got that guitar, I honestly thought it was supposed to be passed on to him since he already knew how to play. But it was actually a gift for me. So I started with one simple chord. Then another chord progression. Completely self-learned. Eventually, YouTube became my occasional coach ever since it came around in 2005.
The first song I ever learned was You’re Beautiful by James Blunt. After that, I started learning some Christian music too. It was all so fun. We were addicted to music. Our playlist was huge, mostly bands. And I think we can all agree: Music Has Power.
So let me ask you something.
What if I told you that some music can actually change your life? Not just give you a vibe, but bring peace. Not just motivation, but real joy and hope. Not just another hype beat, but an encounter with the real and tangible God.
Certainly not all music can offer true meaning, joy, or peace. But there’s a playlist I’d love to share with you. Not some Sparta motivation soundtrack or “monk Christianity frequency” type of thing.
From a biblical perspective, we all are made to worship and sing. But when we discover that worship has to primarily be attributed to God, we begin to step into the fullness of life. Peace, joy, hope, pure relaxation, and strength begin to come as evidence when we worship God or engage in worship songs. There’s something powerful that happens in the atmosphere of worship. Our hearts become lighter, our minds become calmer, and our focus shifts back to the One who created us.
